Explore is an intensive French-immersion program that is offered during the spring and summer. It brings people from all across Canada together to experience francophone culture firsthand, to learn or improve their French-language skills and to have a whole lot of fun while doing it.
For participants 16 and older, the sessions last between 31 and 33 days.
For 13 to 15 year olds, three-week summer sessions are available.
Unsure about your French-language skills?
No problem. There are no language-skill requirements for Explore. You are assigned to a group according to your age category and skill level, so that you can learn and practise French with confidence.
How does it work?
The Explore program is a mix of in-class and activity-based learning. You’ll generally start your days in the classroom with a language lesson and then a workshop. After that, you might find yourself kayaking, exploring the city, visiting a museum, or even watching a play! Don’t worry — you’ll have some down time to hang out with your new friends too. Activities vary from one place to another so read up on what is on offer to help you decide where you’d like to Explore.
80% of people get to explore at their 1st choice location!
How much will this cost me?
Something this cool must be pretty pricey, right? Guess again. Explore is funded by the Government of Canada so your tuition, instructional materials, meals and accommodations*, workshops and cultural activities are all included. You’ll need to cover the cost of your travel expenses to and from your location, your personal spending money, any optional cultural activities you’d like to participate in as well as a non-refundable registration fee**.
*Does not apply for virtual sessions.
**The registration fee is paid only when the applicant accepts their Explore offer.
