Inspire youth to practise their English-speaking skills and share your culture while getting paid! That’s Odyssey!
Odyssey is a nine-month paid work placement program for language assistants funded in part by the Government of Canada. As an English speaker, you would move to a French-speaking community in either New Brunswick or Quebec and work in a classroom setting to help students learn and improve their English language skills.

Join the 36,500 individuals who have participated in Odyssey since its inception in 1973.

How does it work?
First, look through all of the amazing places in need of language assistants by clicking HERE. Once you’ve decided where you’d like to go, you apply to the program. If you're accepted into the program, you will be assigned a placement.
As a new language assistant, you’ll receive formal training prior to the start of your placement. Once the school year kicks off, you’ll work under the direction of a teacher and use games and activities to help students learn and improve their spoken and written English language skills. In your free time, you’ll get to explore a new place, practise your French and soak up a whole new culture!
Do I get paid?
Of course! As a language assistant, you will receive a taxable salary of $25,000 for 25 hours of work per week, which you will receive during your nine-month mandate. That’s about $25 per hour, or $2,700 per month from September through May.
The Odyssey program also offers paid holidays and allowances to help cover two return trips home if you are placed more than 200 km away from your place of residence.
