Practice numbers (prices), work on listening comprehension skills. Vocabulary related to shopping/prizes/tv.
youtube clips of “The Price is Right”
Create a powerpoint of the game (or you can just use the clips)
Prepare very short games/questions (~2-3 minutes)
Explain the concept of “The Price is Right” including rules and games. Go over vocabulary (ie. bid, over/under, win, etc.)
Show clip of the first item to bid on. Stop the video and ask for “contestants”. The students will then “bid” on the item, and the student closest to the price without going over wins. They then go on to play a game. This game can be similar to the games they have on the show, or you can do a more English-related activity. Examples are vocabulary translation, answering questions, charades etc. where they must answer 3/5 correctly in order to “win” the prize on the show.
Continue for however long you like. To end, do the “showcase showdown” (which is just bidding again, but on multiple prizes) between two students.
Keep the games short and fun, don’t put too much pressure on having the correct answer.
Find ways to keep the “audience” entertained as well (including them in games, letting someone be the host etc)
Change the games depending on the level of your group.
At the elementary level, this game is for grades 5 and 6.
