The online summer program at the UBC English Language Institute provides the same curriculum as our on-campus program, in a format that is convenient for those who choose to study virtually. Students from different parts of Canada will come together in online classes to improve their English-language skills in the context of current themes on global citizenship. The full-time Explore program at UBC consists of predominantly synchronous (instructor-led) lessons supported by some asynchronous (own-time) activities.
What makes our program special and unique?
• Each day starts with virtual classroom lessons that focus on grammar, vocabulary, speaking, and listening. The classes are followed by workshops that are designed to encourage the use of the skills studied in the classes. Our online classes are interactive and use a variety of tools to create an engaging learning environment. Students will receive extensive feedback from experienced English Language Institute instructors and will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with their classmates.
• In addition to the program curriculum, we offer a schedule of optional sociocultural activities hosted by cultural assistants—all current UBC students. These activities provide a space to interact in a fun and exciting English environment. Virtual activities include tours of local sites, language games, arts and crafts, and celebrations of cultural events.
